The month of Halloween

October has to be one of my favorite times of the year. The leaves are vibrant and gorgeous, the weather is crisp and not too warm or cold, and the promise of holiday festivities make it hard to sit still without smile. As we drive down the canyon everyday to head to school and work Eric and I pick out our favorite trees covering the mountains. My favorite tree is hot red and overlooks Deer Creek Dam. I love going to corn mazes, drinking fresh apple juice, eating chili with corn bread, and wearing my sweatshirts and sweaters again. Fall is just a comfortable season. I can sit by the fire with a good book and look out my window at the moutains that have flaming trees which look as if they are melting the snow beginning to settle on each peak. Yes, I will always love the fall.

Ah, ha, ha, ha, Staying Alive!

Yes I know it has been centuries since I have written last and no I was not touring Europe or sailing the ocean blue. Life caught me by the hand and has been taking me on a ride without any brakes. School has started again and with that comes less time to devote to the life of blogging and quite a few other things. Not to fret though, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I believe I will reach the light around April 24th or 25th. That's right ladies and gentlemen, I will be graduating from college! While I have loved school and how it has helped me grow, I get quite stressed at times. Here are the things I am looking forward to doing after I finished with college:

1. Start having a family

2. Spend more time cooking

3. Read

4. Go to the pool in the middle of the day on a weekday with Lindsey and Sadie

5. Do my visiting teaching before 8:00 at night

6. Paint

7. Work out in the morning

8. Clean the house more than once a month

9. Take a dance or yoga class

10. Study the scriptures more in depth

11. Go camping with Eric

12. Plant a garden

13. Clean out the closet in our second bedroom

14. Sell junk from closet on EBay

15. Do a little jig just because I can.

Here are some pictures of Eric's endeavor over the last few weeks. I wanted to keep up on the blogging so I decided to go with some more pictures. Pictures are a lot easier to post than thinking of things to write!

Here is Eric two days before breaking his back. He is putting on his usualy charm for the camera! Gotta love the smile!

This right after surgery. Eric got a lot of good sleep in while at the hospital. The ice packs wouldn't stay cold enough to cool him down
though and around 4:00pm everyday he would wind up with a fever.

Eric is catching some more zzz's in between physical therapy. I am sitting on my lovely bed for the week. I will forever be grateful for my bed now. I am talking to one of the many that sent their love and support while we were in the hospital. Thank you again for all your support and love. We couldn't have done it without all of you! From the small to big acts of kindness, we will always appreciate your love!

This is Eric's back with his staples in there still. He finally got the staples out and he is healing great. He might not have much of a scar, much to his dismay. He wants a battle wound! :)

We had to measure. His incision almost hit 10 inches.

The Breaking Point

The past few weeks have been molded into a blur. Today marks the two week anniversary of the day my husband broke his back. Eric fell off the second story of a house he was framing while at work. He landed on his shoulder, folded in half and as hit feet hit the ground above his head he broke his T12 vertebrae. The day after his accident the neuro surgeon fused his T11 and L1 to his T12 vertebrae. After a week of recuperating in the hospital we finally got to go home. We have been home for a week now and we are going to get his staples taken out today. Eric has an awesome attitude and he is making progress everyday. We are just grateful that he is not paralyzed. Time and time again our doctors told us that it truly is a miracle that he is not paralyzed. The way his bone broke, and the shards on bone surrounded the spinal cord should have punctured the cord, especially since he tried to go back to work after falling and then decided to drive to the emergency room without calling an ambulance. We feel truly blessed and have felt all your prayers and support. It has been so amazing to see how blessed we are with an unfailing support group. You all have kept us going through the good and bad days. We love you and thank you!

Harry Potter

After a long day in the car Eric and I crumpled tiredly onto the couches next to the CD player. All day we had been listening to the 6th Harry Potter book on our way home from Idaho where we had also been listening to the book during every spare moment we had. We were tired from traveling and had to wake up early the next day for work. Could we stop listening to the book? Of course not. The hours passed as we hung to each word spoken by the narrator. I clapped my hands for joy when Harry kissed Ginny for the first time and wanted to cover my eyes as Harry and Dumbledore ventured to capture the horcrux as the images danced vividly in my mind...

Sure, you can call me a nerd for liking Harry Potter. I don't mind. I would rather be a nerd and like Harry Potter than live my life without the book. You see, Harry Potter kept my husband and me in contact with each other during the awkward stages of getting to know one another. Eric passed the books on to me and I read them which in turn gave us commonality and gave us a reason to call each other and talk without seeming too flirty or pushy. True the books are good but Harry overpowering evil was just a tiny portion of the power behind the Harry Potter books for Eric and I. They created opportunity for growth in our relationship and eventually our outtings and get togethers became more than just discussing the book or watching the movies although our first kiss was after watching the 3rd Harry Potter movie.

I am happy to say that although we are definitely excited to read the 7th Harry Potter for the good story it provides, our relationship now has expanded to more than wizardry and hoaxes but we will always be thankful and always get a good laugh that Harry Potter truly helped us build the foundation on which we stand together now.

No, I don't mind being a Harry Potter nerd afterall.

Here are some pictures from good old Nor Utah that
I thought you might all enjoy!
You don't have to be jealous even though we
look this good all the time.

Why Eric doesn't have a mullet.

This is Eric and I on our dream vacation. :)

I have always upheld the prejudice that jet skiing is better than boating. You get to feel the waves at your feet as you skim across the water, do donuts without the worry of wearing your tires down, and I can tip any jet ski if you give me 15 minutes or so. What a rush! Boats are big, crowded, gas guzzlers, and being bounced around on a tube makes my knees hurt and ready to throw up. I would rather throw myself off the tube or "accidentally" slip off the skis on my feet before I get stuck behind a boat; however, the tides have begun changing! I have discovered wakeboarding and the comforts a boat has to offer! Don't worry, my loyalty will not falter with jet skies but my negative viewpoint towards boats is being washing away faster than garbage floating away on a busy lake. I first began changing my mind as we skimmed Lake Tahoe looking at the gorgeous scenery. I was happy to have my feet out of the frigid water and have the protection of the boat around me as we passed through breathtaking sights only available to the boater's eye. The final clencher came when I began wakeboarding on Utah Lake. Utah Lake is another shocking discovery in itself, at least this year due to the fact it is 5 feet higher than usual. Anyways, being able to carve within the boat's wake felt strangly simliar to snowboarding, which I love. With the sun beating down and the breeze blowing by the satisfaction of defying gravity as I race over the water's surface is overwheming. Rock on is all I have to say! Needless to say, I have always loved the water but my addiction grows stronger as I continue to discover new adventures to be taken within its' depths whether it be by boat, jet ski, or simply as I swim my heart out.

Blog Worthy

Hestiation mounts each time I try to create a new blog post as I feel I have few adequate topics to post. My creativity lacks as I think of interesting tidbits in my life worthy to write about. Should I write about my new awesome Chaco sandals? How slow work has been the past few weeks? Or perhaps that I left my chapstick in my sweat pants at home and my lips have been left to suffer all day. Hmm...no topic my mind approaches seems to spark enough words to create a posting that I think would captivate readers and explain who I am and what I am about. Perhaps I still need to become comfortable in my blogger skin in order to begin creating masterpieces from the hum drum of life. The routines, mishaps, occasions, and little moments in life truly mold us into who we are and as such are worthy to be noted and recorded as stepping stones in life's journey. These are the moments I wish to unfold and slowly I will stretch my blogging fingers and reveal both small and big happenings in life that shape who I am.

Animals trails are for animals

On a recent trip to beautiful Lake Tahoe my family and I learned a wonderful lesson. If the trail disappears you don't continue walking through the woods trying to follow animal watering paths. This is a picture of us forraging through the woods trying to make our way down to an island we later found out was miles away. It was a wonderful adventure that left me with some pretty awesome battle wounds, including a sliver still in my leg, and that proved me tothat teva sandals are marvelous to hike in for all those who don't believe in socks. Luckily, we all made it out safe and sound and finally drove to our island destination. Our hike was quite an adventure; one that will go down in the record books as a very good learning experience and quite a jovial time! Next time I think we should all listen to mom when she tells us to turn around! :)

The Blog has Arrived!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Laci blogging. Hope you enjoy your stay!
